More door fixing.

So now the roof is on, I can mount the doors to line them up. I used my green Edding Paint pen, which was an excellent way to mark the holes that needed drilling.

I don't plan to use the full roof from the weather equipment set delivered with my car that often, as I have a half hood for use when the screen is on, and when I have the carbon aero fitted I will be using half doors, and the tonneau for protection when parked up.

However one part I had overlooked. In order to mount the doors, you need the hood on, so that meant fitting the hood sticks and all the associated bits, before you could line up the doors for drilling and mounting.

At the same time I removed the centre screw from the windscreen mount, in order to fit the mirror mounts for the IVA.

Front end finishing and paint guard

The wings and other front end bits are now pretty much complete, so I had Dave from Premier Paint Guard come over to fix his excellent protective film to the areas most at risk from stone chips.

Dave really does do an excellent job, and the film is almost invisible.

Anyway made a start on the fixing for the carbon cycle wings, using the Big Head fasteners and their own bonding agent.

Here's the big heads mounted to the wing stays.

Almost (well you know what that means! ) finished now!

So here we are at about 40 hours of actual building time, and we are getting close to the finished product now!

As always there are lots of simple jobs to complete that will probably take forever, but it is now starting to look like a real Caterham!

First engine start up.

So here's the next major milestone completed in my build process today.

Yep the very first time the engine started. I had previously cranked the engine over to get the oil worked around the engine, with the inertia switch disconnected.

The engine sprang into life for the first time with no issues, and plenty of good oil pressure too.
